Fixing incorrect mouse double clicks

Author: eches | Files under Tips & Tricks

Have you ever experienced the icon or folder you double click does not open; it just moves slightly. You tried again and again in exasperation. You just manage to open after several trials. It bothers me but since I rarely use my own PC, so I don't bother either to find a fix to this problem. Anyway I came across an article on a magazine on how to fix this and before it goes missing in the piling magazines, it'd be better to post it here.

For an oversensitive mouse or tend to jerk the mouse while double clicking, you can sorted the problem by using Windows Registry. Windows Registry allows user to define between a desired and undesired command. Ok, lets get started.

1. Open 'Run' from start menu, type in 'regedit' and enter (click OK).
2. Navigate to the 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Desktop' key.
3. Double click on the following string, 'DragHeight' (right hand side of windows).
4. Change the value to 10 and click OK.
5. Change the following string, 'DragWidth' and change the value to 10.
6. Close the the Registry.

What's really going on? Basically Windows will consider the cursor movement is intentional only if it moves by 10 pixels between 2 clicks. By default the limit is 4 pixels which is quite a small margin. This is true especially for high resolution screen and sensitive mouse setting.

If you don't feel comfortable with it then change the value accordingly :)
