Grisoft finally released AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0, the AVG latest version of widely used free security software. If your familiar with AVG antivirus you will notice that the AVG interface was given a new much-needed facelift. For those who are using the previous version of AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 or do not have any antivirus installed in your computer at all, it's highly recommended to download and install this new free AVG.
AVG antivirus Free 8.0 provides basic protection against viruses, spyware, and also equipped with safe-searching technology. It is worth noted that the AVG Free 8.0 is intended for personal and non-commercial use on single computers running Windows 2000, XP or Vista.
The product however neither includes Anti Rootkit that is included in the commercial AVG products, nor the protection against hackers, keyloggers, spam, phishing attacks, and malicious file downloads that can come through instant messaging and attachments from seemingly friendly sources.
Having said that, this AVG antivirus provides sufficient protection against malicious virus attacks and spyware activities. The AVG file is quite big in term of size, roughly 46 MB, but it's worth to download to safeguard your computer.

In Windows I’m using Kaspersky Internet Security. In Ubuntu I use AVG for Linux Workstation. :)

I’m a big fan of AVG but sadly my laptop was infected by a firefox hijacker that kept opening a chinese website and AVG could do nothing about it. It pissed me off big time. I changed to Avast and the problem fixed.
With this new release I changed back to this new AVG.

Eches, it’s proven that AVG doesn’t pick up all the viruses, actually in a comparison, it actually picked up the least out of the 10 main anti viruses. They always say, you get what you pay for. I use ESET Smart Security and have never had any problems whatsoever.
I think eset and Kaspersky are the best antiviruses personally.

Never heard of ESET Smart Security before but it looks promising. How about the load of this system? It’s big NO NO if it’s same like Norton.
