Smarter Way to Defrag Your Hard Disk

Author: eches | Files under Freeware, Productivity

Disk Defragmenter is a built-in function in Windows, purposely built to help Window users to optimize hard disk performance. When my laptop was on Windows XP, I was quite happy with Disk Defragmenter, mainly because it showed me the progress of the defragmentation. Unfortunately that is not really the case in Windows Vista. The defragmentation seems to take ages with no indicator on the progress.

Smart Defrag is a third party software out there that outperform the built-in Disk Defragmenter. It does not only show visual progress but also has a lot of features that beats Disk Defragmenter hands down.

Key Benefits

  • Extremely easy to use with its intuitive interface
  • World’s fastest defragmenting engine
  • Optimize disk performance by streamlining your file system, places the frequently used files and directories into the fastest area of the disk
  • Works automatically and quietly in the background
  • Data safe and reliability guaranteed
  • Smart Defrag is 100% freeware

It doesn't take long to learn all the functions, thanks to its user-friendly interface. If you want to learn more about Smart Defrag, you may find the following video useful.

I dont like the Vista defragger either, its slow and also lacks graphic display. In my view none of the free softwares do as good a job as Diskeeper for efficient automatic defrag. I really like the way it works silently in the background defragging my drives which are perpetually getting fragmented due to the photo/video editing I do.

    Hi,
I have tried a few of these defraggers on Windows Vista, this one included. Seemed to really make a difference. Then one day my system started hanging coming out of sleep mode. Only way out was the power button. For a long time I couldn’t figure it out. Then one day I decided to use the factory Disk Defrag. Problem solved. Not as efficient, not as fast, but for me, using vista basic, I was doing more harm power cycling my system that was stuck waking from sleep mode. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

    Hi there,
I know lot of people perform disk defragmentation, for better system performance. but seriously some times bad sectors or old hard disk makes this process use less. So its better to keep your files well managed, use better backup options and format the hard disk when it is really in worse conditions.
