Eches.net was not accessible for almost 24 hours yesterday as the number of unique visitors gradually increases and keep hitting the maximum CPU usage for a shared hosting. I was kindly reminded by Siteground a week ago regarding the alarming traffic development in this site and the need to switch to VPS or dedicated server to better accommodate the growing traffic, but I managed to bring this blog into a safe zone by implementing super cache plugin and by removing most of subdomains that brought a handful of visitors.
Yesterday, eches.net was again hit by consistent surge of traffics. While happy looking at the positive development indicated by Google analytics, I was shocked to see a steep slope of yesterday's traffic. Email from Siteground confirmed that eches.net was suspended for hitting the capped level again and causing poor performance to other Siteground's client hostings.
I tried to do a quick transfer to a VPS provider (Knownhost) but I ended up running in the same circle again and again (failed to propagate the name servers etc). I must say VPS is totally a new environment and there are lot of things to be learned. Taking the situation into consideration, I guess it must take at least 2 days to get everything properly setup. 2 days of down time carry too much stakes. The simplest way to get around the problem is by purchasing VPS from Siteground but it costs me a whopping $99 a month!
Eches.net definitely won't dwell long enough in this VPS since there are other cheaper VPSs but provide superb performance. I probably try Slicehost; it's affordable. Starting with $38/month you can have the same specifications as what I have now.
Frankly, I believe there are several companies that are specialized in VPS and dedicated server host and that explains why I start to revisit several hosting review sites that I used to visit long time ago. If you plan to own your first domain, VPS is not for you yet; look no further than to find cheap web host (shared hosting).
I will keep you posted with my new quest on finding suitable VPS for my blog. Don't forget to subscribe my feed.

Have you try VPS Lime?
Sep 12, 2008 at 21:20:50
VPS Lime is in my list as well. What do you think of VPS Lime?
Sep 12, 2008 at 21:37:58

Told you, your blog ranking is tremendously increased. That’s very good.
For the VPS, maybe you should try the cheapest one, for trial. But don’t forget to share your experience with us.
We would love to know the VPS too… ;)

indocontest – I know about LIME specs but I’m worried about its real performance. I guess Nirmaltv.com use Lime but the loading is not that good (probably due to the heavy graphics). Slicehost on the other hand, seems to be a pretty good choice. Sizlopedia.com (10k UV/day) is using slicehost USD 38 package and the loading is fast. I don’t rule out to try Lime though :)
soleh – steadily increase but not good enough to unlock tribalfusion. Hopefully I will be accepted in 3 months’ time. heh

Mind if I ask? What is “unlock tribalfusion”? What actually do you mean by that? I asked Google but can’t find the answer. Sorry! ;)

my bad, it’s not really a proper word I guess. I signup with Tribalfusion about a year ago, but my application was turned down. It’s a CPM advertising company (like burstnet). Its requirements are pretty high. One of those requirements is you need to have 2000 UV / day (average) :D
Will give another shot by the end of this year and hopefully I could pass the milestone

Yeah that’s what Google told me, a CPM advertising company. I thought I have misunderstood by the word unlock,
Good luck anyway, bro!

Forexstar – Knownhost.com seems to be an established company for VPS. You can start owning a VPS at $20. It seems to be a pretty good offer.
Quakeboy – Thanks for being my regular reader :) I think your blog is in a good shape. Maybe you need to increase the number of posts more aggressively; keep feeding your readers with fresh info :D
robotix – bagitau bape lama nak buat domain transfer bila dah siap nanti. Try dulu cpanel & nak install fantastico knownhost, penin gk.

Sep 15, 2008 at 12:23:05

iCalvyn – let me know when you make up your mind. I want to know how VPS of your choice performs. I probably switch to other VPS if it offers better deal.
quakeboy – chill out man :) I’ve been blogging for 2 years, like you as well. For the first 6 months there was virtually nothing in term of traffic and money. Lucky me, passion really fuels me to keep writing and driving this blog forward.
Grow your passion and keep writing :D

Honestly, reading this post educate me more on the technical challenge when our traffic has reached its peak. Thanks for sharing this. I don’t know when I can reach to the state like what you’ve reach. I look forward to read your analysis new VPS.
Please also update us on Slicehost.com.
Sep 16, 2008 at 17:52:25
Sure will do. Using VPS is like unlocking a new area of of hosting management that appears to be restricted in shared account.
Sep 16, 2008 at 20:59:23
I recommend VPSLime.com they have been super fast serving me. The server has been solid so far. Haha and they are having 99% off next few days…cost me like 20 something cents.
Sep 16, 2008 at 23:09:00
Tim, thanks for your recommendation. There are few questions I would like to ask. Do they provide Cpanel and fantastico? Are they part of the package? For Knownhost, I need to add on top of the basic package.
I see someone with big traffic (nirmaltv.com) using VPSLime. The loading is pretty quick.
Sep 17, 2008 at 12:57:24
Hey Eches,
Yeah you need add Cpanel on top of the package (an extra $12.99). So if you were going to sign up in the next few days it wouldn’t cost you more then $13 (99% off the featured package).
