Internet Explorer 9 will be unveiled by Microsoft very soon (15th September during Microsoft Beta Launch event in San Francisco). It's just around the corner but that doesn't stop people from passing around several of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) screenshots which have been leaked in the past couple of weeks. A fresh new Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 user interface screenshot was reportedly posted on Microsoft Russia’s press site which was was spotted by ZDNet.

The screen shot (above) shows a navigation bar and fewer controls. There’s a back button, a combined URL - search box at the top. And that’s pretty much it. I don’t see menu items like “Favorites” or “Suggested Sites” or “Get More Add-Ons” (but maybe they’re still in there, somehow).

I know what comes into your mind; is the screenshot legit? As reported by Neowin, the screenshot leaked is legit as confirmed by one of their sources in Microsoft.

Whether you like it or not, it looks much better than its previous version.

We know that Internet Explorer 9 is coming up soon and we had only seen the Internet Explorer 9 Preview build but we never get a chance to see any IE9 user interface screenshots. Well, few screenshots of Microsoft’s upcoming browser interface, Internet Explorer 9, has been leaked by a chinese website over at livesino.

According to the site, Internet Explorer 9 will use the Metro UI, the same thing being used in Windows Phone 7 series interface & Zune HD. By loosely translating the site using google dictionary tool, we learned that,

New version of IE 9 preview version of the title bar of the platform, integrating the address bar, tool bar, search box, the status bar. Click the page title to display the address bar (and the search box, favorites management, access history viewer), the website finish loading cases, the address bar to display only part of the title page.

Personally I can't tell whether this is a real deal or not (Best April Fool's joke if this is one). But who knows :)

Normal computer users may not even consider to use multiple versions of Internet Explorer but for those who are developing websites (especially related to XHTML and CSS) know very well, they need to cross check their design in the latest version of Internet Explorer and of course, in the older versions of IE, further back to IE 5.5. Microsoft doesn't allow multiple versions of Internet Explorer running on the same machine, so it would be troublesome to designers who would like switch back and forth to different IE versions.

Internet Explorer Collection comes handy to web developer because it allows you to install multiple instances of Internet Explorer right from Internet Explorer 1.0 to Internet Explorer 8 RC1. You can choose what version you want to install or you can even install every single version of Internet Explorer all together.

However please note that even though this application is compatible with Windows Vista, not all versions of Internet Explorer are compatible with different Windows OS. To make sure what IEs are compatible with your current Windows OS, you can check the compatibility chart before you start installing.

Judging from the latest version of IE (IE 8 RC1) included in the application we can safely say that it is updated regularly. If you think of downloading it, below is the download link

As soon as you install Windows Vista on you computer, you just say goodbye for good to Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) because it is replaced by Internet Explorer 7. Why bother? Yup, that's the correct question to normal users but for web developers the absence of IE6 is troublesome especially when it comes to cross browser compatibility check. If you are on Windows XP you don't have problem to install multiple IEs as they can run side by side but not in Vista.

There's a solution to get around the problem but it's not really the easy one. I break down the steps into 2 parts so that it would be easier to follow.

Part 1: Software installations

1. First you need to download and install Virtual PC 2007 (roughly 31 MB)
2. Download IE6 VPC Image. There are several packages so make sure you choose the right installer (IE6-XPSP3_VPC.EXE) which is roughly 421 MB.
3. Once you are done with step 2, unpack the installer to a folder of your choice.
4. Run Virtual PC 2007 and click new to setup new virtual machine.
5. There's a wizard that will walk you through the process and here are the details you need to fill in.

Select "create a virtual machine" when you are asked for an option

Name and location: Rename it if you plan to have several virtualization (i.e. running Linux at the same time)

Select Windows XP as an operating system

Simply go with 128 MB, you may upgrade it later on

Select Windows XP as an operating system

Virtual Hard Disk Options: choose "an existing virtual hard disk"

Find IE6 image by browsing the directory where you unpack IE6 VPC Image in step 3

At this stage you should be able to boot into Windows XP with Internet Explorer 6 installed. As far as I'm concerned, I had already completed my wordpress theme and had uploaded it to my hosting server and now I need to see it online via IE6. The following part will show how to set our IE6 so that it can be connected to the internet.

Part 2: Getting IE6 Online

1. Go to Virtual PC console and click on settings > Networking and select "Adapter 1" dropdown menu on the right. As I'm on a wireless network, I just select network card that's associated to wireless connection. Otherwise, select "Shared Networking (NAT)" and click OK.
2. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections and click on "setup" in Internet Explorer 6. Make sure to do the following

Network Connection Type: Connect to the Internet

Choose Set up my connection manually

Internet Connection: choose Connect using a broadband connection that is always on

Click on "Finish".

2. Without exiting the "Internet Option", select "Local Are Network (LAN) Settings" and tick "Automatically Detect Settings" and click OK.
3. Restart Internet Explorer 6 and you should be able to online by now.

Now you are good to go online with IE6 on Windows Vista!

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 was released recently and is currently available in several languages for test drive. I rarely install beta products because sometimes they might cause instability on the system. Since it's already in Beta 2, many bugs are supposed to be fixed and hopefully it doesn't cause any major troubles when running it in Windows. Though I'm not really a Beta product, the main reason I'm testing out Internet Explorer is to see what changes had been made Internet Explorer to make it better as compared to Firefox and to the new emergence of Google Chrome.

So what's new in IE 8?

1. InPrivate Browsing - With InPrivate Browsing, Browsing History is automatically disabled and websites you visit will not appear in the history.

2. Smart Screen Filter - This feature will protect IE 8 users against malicious websites by giving them warning regarding the possible threats.

3. Navigation - There is an option to restore a closed tab as well as restore the last browsing complete session.

4. Search Suggestion - It's a helpful search feature for users. Search smarter with detailed suggestions from your favorite search providers and browsing history. See visual previews and get suggested content topics while you type in the enhanced Instant Search Box.

5. Compatibility View - The built-in Compatibility View button enables you to display websites that were designed for older browsers. Simply press the Compatibility View button if you see display problems on a website like misaligned text, images, or text boxes. It's located next to the Refresh button on the Address Bar.

6. Accelerators - Accelerators let you complete your everyday browsing activities more quickly and even discover new services. Start mapping, translating, emailing, and more in just a few mouse clicks.

7. Web Slices - This is an exciting new technology in IE8. It keeps up with changes to the sites you care about most. Add a Web Slice and you won't have to go back to the same website again and again for updates on news, stock quotes, online auctions, weather, or even sports scores.

Well, I've been running with IE8 for almost 2 days now and we will see how the various Web sites take advantage of the new features like the WebSlices. Web browsing is going to be revolutionized, no doubt about that and Internet Explorer 8 is on the right position to be a big player of that change. Hey, what are waiting for? Go grab the copy and test drive the new Internet Explorer 8!

Unlike Firefox which is consistently swamped by the abundance of useful plugins to improve user experience, Internet Explorer is a long way off from providing such things to its users. While "useful plugins" rarely found in Internet Explorer, it is really a gem if you can find a hack on how to ease up certain functions in Internet Explorer.

Youtube Hack tool is a useful tool especially to people who keep looking for new Youtube videos and save them in their local hard disk. To download Youtube videos is really a piece of cake; you just need to right click on the video, click on the "Download This Youtube Video" and Voila!

As Firefox is gaining more and more popularity over the recent years and still shows no sign of abating, the developer will make this useful feature available in Firefox as well soon. I know loyal Internet Explorer users are too eager to put this little hack onboard, so here's the download link.
