iPhone OS 4.0 is "jailbreakable", not doubt about it. We have seen several videos of Comex, Geohotz and ih8sn0w showing off how iPhone OS 4.0 was jailbroken but none of them could tell us for sure when the tool would be released to the public. When everyone speculates the release will only be made after iPhone OS 4.0 official debut this summer, Dev Team surprised us by making the tool, Redsnow 0.9.5 available earlier than expected.

Although Dev Team has made the redsn0w 0.9.5 BETA available for public download, but they have a piece of advice for you:

Please note that this beta is not meant for the average end-user. There are many things "broken" with jailbroken apps in the 4.0beta1 environment right now [...] This beta redsn0w allows the developers behind those jailbroken apps (like MobileTerminal.app!) to fix their software before the general public gets iphoneOS 4.0.

Because it's meant for JB app developers, this beta redsn0w does not perform hactivation. You'll need a properly-registered developer UDID with Apple to get past the activation screen. For similar reasons, there is no Windows version of this beta redsn0w (since apps are developed on MacOSX). Please don't pirate Apple software.

iPhone OS 4.0 Beta is already leaked and in order to get it installed on your device, you need an Apple Developer account. There's a catch though. You can't simply sign up the developer account; you are required to pay USD 99. I don't think it's worth to pay that much for the sake of trying iPhone OS 4.0 Beta which will eventually come out around this summer. Fortunately, there is away to get around this problem (install iPhone 4.0 beta without UDID registration), thanks to ih8sn0w.

1. Decrypt your firmware files and get the rootfs.dmg file.
2. Open the rootfs.dmg file within the IPSW file.
3. Then navigate to System/Library/CoreServices and copy over SystemVersion.plist
4. Now open SystemVersion.plist
5. Remove the following two lines from it
ReleaseType
Beta
6. Add it back into the rootfs.dmg file, overwriting the old SystemVersion.plist.
7. Now restore the new IPSW file to your device.

Comex recently posted a video of a working untethered jailbreak for iPhone OS 3.1.3. The solution doesn't require any software installation like traditional jailbreaking methods; it only takes advantage of a bug in Mobile Safari in iPod Touch & iPhone. And the same bug exists in iPad OS 3.2.

Well done comex for successfully porting Spirit userland jailbreak to Apple iPad.

What is the benefit of jailbreaking iPad I heard you ask. Basically, by jailbreaking iPad you can run third party iPad apps which are rejected by Apple for some ridiculous reasons or restricted applications that can perform task like tethering your iPad to share internet connection etc.

You can disassemble your webcam and replace the IR filter with something else, and so transforming your webcam into an infrared device! All you have to do is to replace the filter with two layers of blackened photo film: they prevent the passage of visible light, but let the IR reach the CCD.


The result? Very cool. At the end of the video you can see nice tricks performed with the IR webcam, for example you can clearly see the light emitted from remote controls, you can look at the weird protection used on standard banknotes and see many dark object as if they were pale
