I happened to know about latest version of QuickTime after I had a problem transferring mp4 videos in iTunes into my iPhone. Apparently, after further inspection the problem was not completely related to QuickTime version I use. Speaking of the latest QuickTime version, there are number of improvements which include updates for encoding quality, compatibility, reliability, and security enhancements.
Video Improvements - better playback of Motion JPEG content and better single-pass H.264 encoding quality.
Audio Improvements - Improving encoding fidelity for MPEG 4 AAC playback, the default option for ripping in iTunes.
Application Improvements - Security fixes for both Mac OS X and Windows users as well as compatibility for iChat and Photo Booth are included.
This update is meant for everyone and the size varies between 20MB to 72MB.
